This graceful thirty year old Cottonwood was lovingly planted by a man who has spent decades restoring native prairie west of Vermillion, SD. Planted lovingly, it has thrived, despite needing to dive deep for needful water. In future paintings, I will illustrate the marvelous view from Prairie Bluff that this lovely tree enjoys!
The painting continues around the sides-see additional image.
Thank you to Jerry and Norma Wilson for sharing the history and a day on your land to enjoy the fruit of your labor in that little paradise you have lovingly and tenaciously cultivated in the Missouri River Valley. That day with you both and Poet Jennifer Soule was unforgettable. Read more from former South Dakota Magazine editor Jerry Wilson's passion for restoration on their land in his book, "Waiting for Coyote's Call: An Eco-Memoir from the Missouri River Bluff" and the sequel, "Seasons of the Coyote: A Year on Prairie Bluff."
