This painting was inspired by a marvelous band of angry looking cumulous clouds which marched through Sioux Falls, South Dakota in the summer of 2023. I am SO GLAD I took the time to pop outside with my camera and snap the shot that gave me irresistible inspiration for this painting! So many have commented on not only how much they appreciate the realism and beauty, but also the hope in the meaning of a “silver lining.” I loved that as well!! I also so enjoy the challenge of trying to create the same awesome depth and ethereal presence of sky and clouds. I have worked on skies and clouds with particular focus for nearly 30 years now. And, yet, I know I shall continue to develop the skill of painting my beloved SKYSCAPES for the rest of my life.

This painting is currently on display in my solo exhibition, “Dazzling Dakota,” at Center for Western Studies (CWS) at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.*  The show runs through April 25, 2025.
