Heavendale
$1,850.00
Textured & Oil on Canvas. 36 x 36 in. Ready to frame or hang as is: 1.5″ deep stretcher – painting continues around the sides.
This painting was inspired by the movement of a band of cumulus clouds passing over the plains outside Pierre, South Dakota. A local photographer captured this glorious moment as shafts of light poured through the misty layers, illuminating the verdant, undulating countryside below. I am so thankful she let me use her brilliant photo as a reference!* I had fun sculpting the prairie portion of the painting before I painted it. Even the tiny hay bales are raised to define their cylindrical volume.
This painting is currently on display in my solo exhibition, “Dazzling Dakota,” at Center for Western Studies (CWS) at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
