Story behind the painting:
When I first saw the picture I used for my inspiration for this painting, it took my breath away! It was so simple, yet so powerful to me. The soft but dynamic sky with the beams radiating through and the gentle breeze just caught within the sail of that sweet boat really captured my attention. The palisades of southern South Dakota to the north of the Lewis and Clark Lake there in Yankton was also such a delightful and anchoring land strip to view in the distance. The original photos I used for my references were taken by a brilliant professional photographer friend of mine, Doug Lee. I love the simple and soothing mood of this painting. I think many of us can appreciate a painting that invites you in to just pause and “sail away” in your mind.
